Hola 5G Oulu: From Lab to Live – A Major Milestone Achieved

The groundbreaking Hola 5G Oulu project, aimed at transforming healthcare through Europe’s first private 5G network in a functioning hospital, has reached a significant milestone. Following rigorous lab testing, the network has proven its reliability and capacity to support the intended use cases without interruption.

The project will now move from the lab to a live hospital environment at Oulu University Hospital. This transition will involve equipping a full patient ward and select operating theatres with the private 5G network. Patients will be fitted with wireless wearable devices that can transmit real-time health data such as vital signs, activity levels, and even ECG readings directly to healthcare providers. This seamless flow of information promises to revolutionize patient monitoring and care.

Oulu University will work directly with the medical team to ensure the solution’s usability, enabling immediate usage after deployment.

Rigorous testing validates network performance

Extensive lab tests have demonstrated the network’s ability to handle the demanding requirements of a healthcare environment. This includes the real-time transmission of large volumes of medical data, supporting remote monitoring and collaboration, and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for critical applications.

Usability assurance

Oulu University has taken a diligent approach to measuring the impact of this ground-breaking 5G deployment. To establish a strong foundation using the least time as possible, Oulu University conducted extensive performance measurements in the current operating hospital environment. This data will be crucial in evaluating the improvements brought about by the private 5G network, especially once the hospital transitions to its new building.

A step forward

This milestone represents a major step forward in the Hola 5G Oulu project. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to push the boundaries of healthcare innovation and transform the way medical care is delivered.
